How did you discover coworking?
I first discovered coworking in 2016 when I came across a newspaper article talking about coworking spaces as a new workspace trend. Due to Singapore’s limited land capacity coupled with increasing property prices, I found this idea to be rather innovative as individuals are now able to enjoy workspaces with short-term commitments at affordable prices.
Which space do you currently manage? How long have you been the community manager there?
Located in the heart of Singapore’s central business district, I have been managing the space at Six Battery Road for two years. I was also involved in the recent upgrading of our office’s workspace, which doubled the coworking desks and allowed more room for common areas.
How would you describe the community at Servcorp Six Battery Road?
We have invested heavily in promoting awareness on coworking etiquette and building a harmonious working environment. As such, I am now proud to say that the community here at Six Battery Road is self-sustaining. More specifically, members are now able to find ways to collaborate, share learning experiences, and provide support for each other whilst abiding by an unspoken rule, “respect for each other.”
What other unique elements make your coworking space stand out from all the rest??
Here at Six Battery Road, your success is our business. Ranging from a team of highly-trained staff to an opulent unbranded office that you may call yours, coupled with an impeccable view that many other businesses can only dream about, Servcorp provides you with the foundation you need to run a successful business.
With our meticulous account managers who attend to the slightest of details alongside our seamless communication networks, you can look forward to a safe and secure work environment whilst maintaining a high degree of credibility and reputation worthy of your business.
Do you host any events to bring the community together?
We host community events monthly. These events can range from a casual ice-cream buffet party to coworking events where clients may invite their business partners to work together in the office for a limited time. We are also in talks with several clients to host events where their services can be showcased in an effort to foster a greater sense of belonging in the workplace.
What are the three key ingredients for operating a successful coworking space?
- Creating a functional work environment. It is important to provide flexible workspaces that cater to the individual requirements of our clients. Spaces that allow for a more conducive work environment; spaces that work.
- Build a community that promotes collaboration. As strong networks help build stronger businesses, it in turn promotes partnerships and new business ventures, allowing clients to feel a stronger sense of belonging.
- Technological investments to improve work efficiency and member satisfaction. It is more than just investing in a strong and secured internet network, but also providing them with the tools to make their life much easier!
What is your favorite part of coworking?
I love the people. As everyone came from different backgrounds and cultures, I am always inspired by the humble beginnings that many have to face to get where they are now. It also gives me great pride to see that my work is contributing to their success, not to mention that I get to learn something new everyday!
What is the most challenging part of operating a coworking space?
The most challenging part is definitely the saturation of the coworking space market with new spaces being launched every other month. However, the silver lining to this is that competition pushes you to innovate! This is why we are constantly looking for innovative ways to add value to our product whilst continuing to focus on our service quality.
Do you have any advice for someone wanting to start a coworking space?
My advice is to invest on differentiators that are difficult to replicate. Here at Servcorp, we have spent decades investing heavily into our manpower. To date, we have the best managers and team who are capable of identifying and executing our clients’ every need. We constantly seek new ways to connect with clients at every level and aim to promote a healthy and trusting relationship, all aimed at one sole purpose — customer satisfaction.
How would you like people to remember Servcorp Six Battery Road?
I would like our space to be remembered as the “coworking space that works.” A Servcorp coworking space is more than just a place to work; it is a space that is designed with your business success in mind. It is simple IT solutions that work; a team to entrust your business to; and a close-knit community of like-minded individuals to collaborate with.
